ADLER Legno Smart-Öl 2K Universal Hardwax Oil, Colourless, for Wood Surfaces
Description
Attain both exceptional durability and natural beauty for your wooden surfaces.
- This product offers excellent resistance to mechanical and chemical damage: the two-part formula provides exceptional durability against abrasion, spills, and common household chemicals, protecting high-traffic areas such as floors and furniture.
- The single-coat application is efficient: with a solids content of more than 97%, Legno Smart-Öl provides good coverage and filling ability and usually needs only one coat, saving time and materials.
- With improved water resistance and a natural feel, the product repels water without losing the wood’s texture, creating a pleasant, moisture-resistant surface.
- Ecological and safe for indoor use: this hardwax oil is made from natural vegetable oils, contains no heavy metals, resists saliva and sweat, and has an A+ rating for low VOC emissions, meeting toy safety standards (EN 71-3).

Usage
Preparation:
- Ensure the product, object, and room temperatures are at least +10°C (ideally 20-25°C), and the relative humidity is 40-60%.
- The substrate must be dry, clean, dust-free, and free from grease, wax, silicone, and resin, and it must be able to hold the coating.
- Sand the wood uniformly: use grit 150 to 240 for furniture and interior doors, and grit 100 to 180 for wooden and parquet floors. Remove all sanding dust.
- For best results, especially on solid wood, moisten the sanded wood, let it dry, then sand it smoothly with the same grit size used before.
- With hardwoods and tropical woods that contain active substances, always carry out a preliminary test treatment first.
Application (2-Component):
- Before use, stir Legno Smart-Öl (7045) carefully.
- Mix 3 parts Legno Smart-Öl (7045) with 1 part Legno Hardener (7084000210) by weight, and stir thoroughly until homogeneous. The pot life is 3 hours.
- Apply a thin, even layer of the mixed product.
- Allow it to act briefly, then wipe away any excess carefully with a cotton cloth or gauze pad, working in the direction of the wood grain.
- For a superior finish, especially on large surfaces, first sand with a random orbital sander or a single-disc sander using fine-grit pads or fleece, then polish with polishing pads, and finally wipe the surface with a lint-free cotton cloth with the grain.
- To avoid a shiny surface on deeply porous wood, after removing the excess, rework it with a non-abrasive brush, such as a horsehair brush, and then wipe the entire surface with a cloth in the direction of the grain.
- Avoid layer build-up in all cases, since one thin coat is generally enough thanks to the high solids content.
- When applying to the inner surfaces of furniture and cabinets, use no more than a single thin layer to reduce the possibility of odors.
Drying & Curing:
- Ensure that the room is well ventilated while the item dries. Poor ventilation may delay drying.
- Treatments can be carried out after twelve hours.
- The surface will be completely dry and ready for full use after seven days.
- Drying times can be longer at lower temperatures, high humidity, or with wood rich in extractives, such as oak or iroko.
Cleaning & Maintenance:
- Clean working equipment immediately after use with Legno-Reiniger (7003) or Adlerol-Verdünner (7231).
- Clean treated surfaces no later than 14 days after applying the oil.
- Clean with water or with Clean-Möbelreiniger (7202), Clean-Parkettreiniger (7207), or a gentle household cleaner.
- For greasy stains, use Legno Reiniger (7003). For wooden floors, you can also use Legno Holzbodenseife (7031).
- Avoid harsh cleaning agents.
- To refresh and for after-care, use Legno Pflegeöl (7009) once and rub off any excess.
Frequently asked questions
- Can Legno Smart-Öl be used on any kind of interior wood? It is suitable for fine-pored and coarse-pored hardwoods and softwoods, and a test treatment is advised for woods rich in extracts.
- What is the main advantage of the two-component system? The two-component system improves both the mechanical and chemical resistance of the treated surface, making it suitable for areas subject to heavy wear such as floors and furniture.
- How long until the surface is completely cured and ready for heavy use? Although follow-up treatments may be carried out after 12 hours, the oil needs seven days to dry completely and reach its full durability and resistance.
- Are children’s toys safe with this product? Legno Smart-Öl is certified in accordance with ÖNORM EN 71-3 (Safety of toys), confirming that it is free from heavy metals and can be used on children’s toys.
- Shall I use Legno Smart-Öl without the hardener? Yes, it can be used as a one-component product for surfaces subject to minimal wear, but this increases drying time and reduces overall durability.
Important safety information: Oxidative drying products can cause soaked cloths to spontaneously combust. Spread cloths out to dry or store them in sealed metal containers or under water. Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (respirator, dust filter P2/P3) during application and sanding. Using the product in spray booths contaminated with nitrocellulose-containing dust is prohibited due to the risk of self-ignition. Refer to the relevant safety data sheet for full details.
