Transform exterior timber with ADLER Lignovit Platin, a water-based, thin-coat wood varnish designed for industrial and commercial applications. The special pigmentation delivers a spectacular, shimmering metallic effect in an elegant Onyxschwarz shade, providing a distinctive, high-value finish for modern architectural projects.

Engineered for performance on non-dimensionally and limited dimensionally stable components, Lignovit Platin is the ideal solution for large-scale applications such as wooden houses, timber cladding, canopies, and window shutters. Its formulation is especially effective on brushed, chipped, or rough sawn wood, enhancing the natural texture while providing a sophisticated metallic sheen.

The coating’s durability is a key asset for professional use. It offers excellent weather and block resistance, ensuring the finish remains pristine over time. The integrated biocidal active substance provides reliable protection against blue stain and mould, safeguarding the timber’s integrity and appearance, which translates to greater client satisfaction and fewer callbacks.

Designed to integrate seamlessly into professional coating systems, Lignovit Platin supports efficient production schedules with its quick drying properties and straightforward application. It represents a perfect fusion of aesthetic innovation and technical reliability for demanding exterior wood finishing.

How-To Steps

  1. Substrate Preparation: Ensure wood is dry (15% ± 2% moisture), clean, and free of separating substances like grease, wax, or resin. For optimal durability, sand smooth surfaces with 80-120 grit in the direction of the grain.
  2. Impregnation (if required): For timbers of durability class 3-5 (acc. to EN 350), apply one coat of a suitable impregnating primer like Lignovit Primo (5358) to protect against blue stain, fungal decay, and insect infestation.
  3. Application: Stir Lignovit Platin thoroughly before use, avoiding air entry. Apply one finishing coat using a brush or vacuum coater. Ensure product, object, and room temperature are at least +10°C.
  4. Drying: Allow to dry for approximately 3-4 hours before handling or recoating. Prevent early exposure to water from rain or dew. Full curing takes approximately 12 hours under optimal conditions (23°C, 50% relative humidity).

Recommendations

For industrial and professional use only. It is strongly recommended to create a sample panel on the original substrate to test the final colour shade, compatibility, and adhesion. For new timber components, an all-over coating is advised to minimize leaching of wood extracts. When sanding, use at least a P2 dust filter as personal safety equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the main advantage of Lignovit Platin over a standard wood stain?

Lignovit Platin’s special pigmentation creates a unique shimmering metallic effect for a high-end architectural finish. It also provides excellent weather resistance and integrated biocidal protection against mould and blue stain, making it superior for durable exterior applications.

Can this product be applied on-site or is it for industrial use only?

While optimised for industrial application methods like vacuum coating, Lignovit Platin can also be applied professionally on-site by brushing. Ensure optimal conditions (15-25°C, 40-80% humidity) and protect the surface from rain during the initial drying phase.

What is the expected coverage per litre?

The applied quantity is 80-125 ml/m², which translates to a coverage of approximately 8-12 m² per litre, per coat. Please note that consumption can be up to 40% higher on rough sawn timber.

Is a primer always necessary before applying Lignovit Platin?

For timbers in durability classes 3-5 (according to EN 350), an impregnating primer like Lignovit Primo is recommended for full protection against fungal decay. For more durable timbers, it may not be necessary, but surface preparation is still critical.
