Usage

Application conditions: Ensure the surface to be painted is dry, the ambient temperature is at least +8 °C, and the relative humidity of air is below 80%. A relatively low temperature (approx. +15 °C) and high humidity (50–70% RH) can prolong the paint’s open time, making application easier.

Surface preparation: For new surfaces, meticulously remove any dirt and dust to ensure optimal adhesion. For previously painted or lacquered surfaces, wash them with Maalipesu detergent and rinse thoroughly with water, then let dry. Scrape off any loose paint or lacquer and sand the entire surface, then remove all sanding dust. If necessary, fill uneven areas with Presto Pikasilote filler and sand smooth before removing dust.

Painting: Stir Helmi Pohjamaali primer thoroughly before use. Thin with water if needed. Apply using a brush, roller, paint pad, or spray. For larger surfaces, it’s recommended to first apply the primer with a furniture paint roller and then level the coat with a synthetic brush, preferably with multi-branched bristles. For absorbent porous surfaces, first prime with a primer thinned 5–10% with water, followed by intermediate sanding. After two hours, apply an unthinned primer coat. The surface can be recoated with Helmi finishing paint after five hours.

Cleaning of tools: Remove excess paint from tools immediately and clean them with water. For slightly hardened paint, Tikkurila Pensselipesu Tool Cleaner is recommended.

Maintenance instructions: If cleaning is necessary, wait at least one month after painting for the product to achieve its final hardness and durability. Clean the surface with a neutral (pH 6–8) dish washing solution and a soft brush, sponge, or cleaning cloth. For very dirty surfaces, use a mild alkaline (pH 8–10) detergent solution. Rinse the surface thoroughly after cleaning. Handle surfaces with care for a few weeks post-treatment.
