Description

Svensk Rödfärg Standard: Swedish red with linseed oil and anti-mould protection.

This Swedish red, Svensk Rödfärg Standard, is a quality traditional Swedish paint developed according to a classic recipe and fortified with linseed oil. It is ideal for wooden building facades, giving them the iconic Swedish red shade and providing long-lasting protection. The paint is specially formulated for exterior applications and suitable for new, unsealed timber or surfaces previously painted with a similar type of paint (slamfärg).

Why choose Svensk Rödfärg Standard?

  • Authentic Swedish Look: Give your wooden building a classic and unique Scandinavian charm with the rich red shade (nearest NCS colour shade: S 5040-Y80R).
  • Excellent Protection: The paint forms a protective layer that protects the wood from adverse weather conditions. The linseed oil in the paint penetrates deep into the wood and special anti-mould additives effectively fight mould and algae growth, which is a problem in wetter and warmer weather.
  • “Breathable” The Svensk Rödfärg Standard surface allows the wood to “breathe” by allowing moisture to evaporate from the wood structure. This helps to keep the wood healthy and prolongs its life.
  • Environmentally friendly: The paint uses ecologically friendly ingredients and modern techniques. Traditional pigments have been replaced with synthetic pigments derived from recycled materials (99% iron oxide). The paint is free of harmful heavy metals such as lead. It ensures high colour stability and protects the environment and your health.
  • Easy to apply and renew: The paint is easy to use with a thin brush. It covers the surface perfectly. Two coats are recommended for new wood; one is sufficient for renewal painting after 5-6 years. After thorough surface cleaning, one coat is enough for surfaces previously painted with (slamfärg) paint.

Application:

Svensk Rödfärg Standard is suitable for exterior work, painting new, unsealed wood surfaces, or refinishing surfaces previously painted with Swedish-type paint. It is not suitable for planed surfaces or surfaces painted with other types of paint (e.g., oil or acrylic paints).

  • Surface preparation:

    1. Use a brush or scraper to clean the surface of dust, dirt, and old paint flakes. A pressure washer can also be used, but the surface must be allowed to dry completely afterward.

    2. Rinse off dust thoroughly, e.g., with a garden hose. The moisture content of the wood at the time of painting should not exceed 15-17%.

    3. If there is a risk of mould, treat the surface with an anti-mould agent before painting.

  • Painting:

    • Mix the paint thoroughly before use.

    • Dilute the paint with approximately 10% water.

    • Apply the paint in a thin, even layer, from top to bottom.

New, untreated wood: Apply two coats of paint. Allow the first coat to dry for at least 24 hours before applying the second coat.

Surfaces previously painted with Swedish-type paint: One coat is usually sufficient.

    • Painting should occur when the air, surface, and paint temperatures are above +5°C and the relative humidity is below 80%. Avoid painting in direct sunlight or on hot surfaces.

  • Additional recommendations:

    • Use coating materials to thoroughly cover all surfaces not intended to be painted (e.g., foundations, windows, gutters).

    • In areas around nail heads, branches, and resinous areas, the paint may initially adhere less well. These areas can be lightly treated with coarse sandpaper to improve adhesion.

    • After painting, leave the covering materials for a few days. In heavy rain, freshly applied paint may run off and stain the foundation or plinth.

Ageing and maintenance:

Svensk Rödfärg Standard ages naturally and elegantly. Over time, the binder becomes weaker, and the pigment particles start to detach from the surface. This happens gradually, without forming unsightly flakes or cracks. When it is time to renew the colour (usually after 5-6 years, depending on conditions), the old layer of paint can be brushed off, and the surface is ready for a new coat of paint without scraping. Importantly, repainting too early can build up too thick layers, increasing the risk of peeling.
