Key Technical Features:
- Color: Dark brown, providing a rich, deep hue that enhances wood’s natural grain.
- Density: Approximately 1.00 ± 0.03 kg/liter , indicating a substantial product.
- Coverage: For first coats, expect coverage of 2-4 m²/liter. Subsequent coats achieve 4-8 m²/liter, with variations depending on the wood surface’s porosity and texture.
- Drying Time: This pine tar does not dry in the conventional sense but rather penetrates the surface. The wood will feel dry once the tar has thoroughly seeped in. This process can range from several days to several weeks, depending on weather conditions, the type of wood (planed or unplaned lumber), its thickness, and the degree of absorption.
- Thinning: For easier application and enhanced penetration, Genuine Pine Tar 850 can be thinned with Gum Turpentine or Alcohol. Please note that when thinned, a smaller precipitate of resin may occur, which is a natural characteristic of the product. Important: Do not use White Spirit for thinning. You can also dilute it with raw or boiled linseed oil to achieve a more rapid drying effect.
- Cleaning: Tools and spills can be cleaned effectively with Turpentine, alcohol, or soap and water.
Application Instructions:
Genuine Pine Tar 850 is relatively viscous. For optimal application and improved penetration, it is recommended to warm the product in a water bath to approximately 50-70 degrees Celsius, or mix it with gum turpentine. Apply the product using a brush. It is also possible to spray the product after warming or diluting. Avoid applying an excessively thick layer, particularly in hot weather, as this may increase the risk of cracking and “bleeding.” Ensure adequate ventilation when painting, and always perform applications outdoors.
Versatile Range of Application:
Genuine Pine Tar 850 is exceptionally versatile and can be applied to a variety of wooden surfaces, including:
- Wood previously treated with pine tar, copperas, or earth paint.
- Untreated wood such as wood paneling.
- Timber facades.
- Wooden roofs.
- Fences.
- Bridges.
- Wooden boats.
Historically, pine tar has also been utilized for veterinary and pharmaceutical purposes, underscoring its broad utility and natural composition.
Directions for use:
Auson Genuine Pine Tar 850 has a viscous consistency, but is easy to apply and more penetrating when heated in a water bath to about 50-70 degrees or diluted with rubber turpentine. It may be diluted with virgin or boiled linseed oil to make the product drier.
Important:
- Do not apply too thickly, as there is a risk of cracking and a condition known as ‘bleeding’ in hot weather.
- Apply with a brush.
- It can also be sprayed on after heating or thinning.
- Ensure good ventilation. Paint outdoors.
