How-To Steps

For best results, apply in warm weather (minimum 10°C) to allow the tar to penetrate the wood easily.

1. Preparation: Ensure the wood surface is clean and dry. Brush away any dust, dirt, and loose material. Wash off any algae or mould growth.

2. Stirring: Stir the Tar Vitriol thoroughly from the bottom of the can before you start and occasionally during application, as the pigment can settle.

3. Application: Apply a thin, even coat with a brush or sprayer. No primer is needed on untreated wood.

4. Second Coat: For the best protection and most even colour, apply a second coat after 1-2 days.

Recommendations

Since this is a natural product, batches may vary slightly. If using multiple cans, mix them before application to ensure a uniform colour. Only apply to wood that has not been treated with other types of covering paints. Ensure good ventilation during application, for outdoor use only.
